Project Description
Sheep & Cattle
The Carruthers Family first started embracing the paddock to plate methodology in the early nineties when Andrew’s father Don was one of the pioneers to deliver home bred and finished beef (‘Claremont Beef’) to the consumers door.
This laid the foundations for our practices today and over the years we have built upon these to secure the highly productive breeding line we have at present. The same passion and approach remains embedded in all processes of the production systems implemented today.
AD Commodities produces high quality, pure bred, Angus steers for the short fed domestic market and long fed feedlot market mainly for export. Our heifers are sought after both domestically and internationally, with regular live export consignments. We retain the first draft of heifers every year as the foundation of future breeding programs.
AD Commodities also produces prime lambs from our Lambpro self-replacing flock. These lambs are turned off pasture at around four months of age and are targeted at the domestic and supermarket trade. From each crop of lambs, the best females are retained as our next line of breeders, lambing at twelve months of age.
We believe the production of protein is the biggest challenge to the world over the next 20-30 years. We are custodians of the land for the next generations. Our boys Cameron and Baxter are young now and are always at the forefront of any sustainable decisions being made across our operations.
